Strawberry Season gets Underway at The Galleries
Our Strawberry Square activities were officially launched by The Mayor of Wigan Borough, Councillor Sue Greensmith this week, kicking off a fabulous six-week programme of fun events for the whole family.
The first strawberry plants were bedded in and guests enjoyed a refreshing glass of fresh lemonade and strawberries whilst listening to live music and enjoying the balmy morning temperatures.
The guests, including the Mayor and Mayoral Consort and local dignitaries chatted and relaxed, they also had an opportunity to greet the cheeky strawberry mascot Strawberry Fool who will be in the shopping centre every day during the summer campaign.
Local children and parents stopped to take a look and weren’t shy about getting involved with the face painting, sand pit and other activities on offer, not to mention the strawberry planting.
Strawberry Square takes place from 23 July – 25 August, every day there will be a Strawberry Trail for people to complete with a free punnet of strawberries for everyone who successfully completes it, the chance to meet Strawberry Fool and lots of children’s activities.
