Monster march with shopping centre and schools raises over £125 for charity
A Wigan-based shopping centre has spent the past weekend raising money for two charities with the help of schools in the local area.
The Galleries Shopping Centre hosted the march this past Saturday as part of One Great Day, the UK-wide charity fundraising day, held to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity and Three Wishes, a charity which supports local hospitals and works closely with the Rainbow Ward at Wigan Hospital.
After linking up with Tina’s Dance Studio & Wigan Warriors Cheerleaders, a total of £125 was raised by the shopping centre.
Victoria Nichol, centre manager of The Galleries, said: “Being such a community-focused shopping centre, we are always looking at ways to entertain our visitors and link up with local schools. Raising this impressive total was a great achievement by all involved.
“The march was a great opportunity for pupils to show their creative flair and you can see from the pictures that there is plenty here in Wigan. There was a real feel-good atmosphere around the town when people saw the march.”
“After counting up all the generous donations, we are proud to announce we raised £125. Thank you to everyone who contributed this past weekend.”
Since it was established in 2014, One Great Day has raised over £230,000 for more than 50 different children’s charities. This year more than 150 shopping centres will be taking part in events as part of the campaign.
